The History of Itchy and Scratchy begins in 1919, when a man named Chester Lampwick created a cartoon, called "Manhatten Massacre". It featured Itchy, and was the first cartoon to have violence. 6 years later in 1925, a cartoon called, "The Happy Cat" premiered. This featured Scratchy being happy, and it was a bomb.

The creator of the Happy Cat, Roger Meyers, decided to put Itchy and Scratchy in a cartoon together (without getting Chester Lampwick's permission), and in 1928 "Steamboat Itchy" came out. It was a success, and this would follow up to many other classic full-length hits by Meyers, including Pi-nitchio, and Scratchtasia.

For an unknown amount of time until 1990, Itchy and Scratchy had their own show, which featured Scratchy chasing Itchy, and Itchy eventually maiming Scratchy. Also, a short lived spin-off show, "The Itchy and Scratchy and Friends Hour" debuted, but was not funny enough to keep running. After 1990, it started showing shorts on the Krusty the Clown show. For a brief period of time, the show had a gentler tone, but soon reverted back to its violent self. Some I&S shows also started running on Zabbo, but eventually went back to Krusty.

Conflict soon arose as who was the true creator of Itchy and Scratchy. Chester Lampwick came forward to say he was the creator of Itchy, and Roger Meyers used him without permission. After proven, Chester Lampwick got his fair share of the profits made by Itchy and Scratchy. Soon after, a park was made for Itchy and Scratchy. It featured I&S robots, that eventually went crazy and tore down the park. EuroItchy and Scratchy land, however, does not seem to be as popular.

More recently, the show's ratings had gone down, and needed a new character to spice things up. They created Poochie, a smooth-talking, egotistical, boring dog. Everyone hated the character, and eventually it was killed. The Itchy and Scratchy shorts still remain to be shown on The Krusty the Clown show.
