My local Fox station constantly shows seasons ten through twelve, so I get a good view of Homer in these seasons. Every now and then, the station will broadcast an old episode, and I'll realize all that I feel is wrong with Homer.

He's far too whiny

In these episodes, I constantly see a bickering Homer that complains about everything. Whether it's the tiniest minutae or something fairly obvious, Homer always seems to be there, front and center, whining about it. Not only is it whining, but it's the more penetrating, more annoying whines you hear. If it weren't actually sporadically funny, I dunno what I'd do.

What's with Homer always crying?

Does anyone else notice this? It seems as though he always ends up crying whenever something goes wrong. For instance, in the episode where Springfield gets split in two because of two different area codes, Homer several times starts crying because the call won't go through. When it wasn't used as much, I actually thought it was kind of funny, but too much of anything funny soon won't be. I just wish the writers would take a hint and tone it down a bit.

Too much of Homer

As I said above, "Too much of anything funny soon won't be." That saying could be aptly used when describing the latest Homer. Almost every episode is about Homer. I mean, it's a show about a family, not just one guy. And with such an expansive cast of characters, you'd think they wouldn't have enough shows solely about Homer. Anyway, an easy way to fix this is to just not show as much of Homer. As of late though, they've seemed to have caught on; episodes are starting to be about other characters besides Homer, and it worked. He seemed funnier in season thirteen.

Homer Simpson, child abuser

Ok, so it hasn't gone this far, but you have to admit, Homer is a lot more violent/angry in seasons ten through twelve than probably all of the seasons put together. In a high frequency of episodes, Homer actually threatens his kids with his fist. Sheesh. In the earlier seasons, Homer actually cared about his kids. Whatever happened to that. Seems like it's a distant dream to the writers.

Kind of a short rant, but I feel like I made my point.
